She was born October 31, 1935 in New York City she was the daughter of the late Florence Coykendall and Lynde Eliot May III, both born and raised in Hartford, CT.
Sister of Lynde (“Ted”) May IV of Madison, Wisconsin and Sandra Andersen of Seattle.
Graduate of Chatham High School, Chatham, MA. Attended Kansas University and and Pembroke (now Brown) and graduated from Springfield College in 1969.
In 1981, earned her masters degree in Library Science in 1981 MLS Simmons College in Boston.
Married Angus Gregory Garber, Jr. in 1956. Married William Francis Massy in 2009.
Mother of Angus Gregory Garber III of Harwichport, MA; Kathryn Eliot Garber (deceased Nov. 18, 2001); and John Eliot Garber.
Grandmother of Emily Garber and Christopher Garber, both of Washington, D.C.; Austin Marrett of Reno, Nevada; Matthew Flora of Sonora, CA; Alison Garber of Boston; and Sophie Garber of Northampton, MA.
Step-mother and godmother to Beth Steele, of Elk Grove, CA. Step grandmother to Christopher Steele and Allison Steele, of California.
Reference librarian at the D’mour Library, Westrn New England University in Springfield, retired 2000.
Town of Wilbraham Library Trustee for 10 years and President, MA Library Trustees Association.
Spent her life devoted to family and friends. Enjoyed travelling the world with her husband Bill. She love hiking and biking especially with friends in the Appalachian Mountain Club. She was a champioon of green causes and conservation, and cofounded the land trust Wilbraham. She was a combination of a depression baby, Minister's daughter, and a Yankee – wonderfully frugal as well as very generous.
Calling Hours for Suzanne will be Monday from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home 783 Bridge Rd. Northampton followed by a Celebration of her Life at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.
Interment will be private, at a later date. The family requests contributions to the Kestrel Land Trust in lieu of flowers.
